I Dig La Clede!

Welcome to Eastside Digs where each week I will be shining a spotlight on the single best listing from the week’s caravan. I am fortunate enough to work in an office that operates with a “pack” mentality.  We like to do things as a group.  For example, we hit the streets every Tuesday taking open houses by storm. Trust me. This is not an exaggeration.  Agents in the area know that if they are planning to serve food at their Broker Open House…  they should double the order because Keller Williams Los Feliz is in effect.

This week there was a clear winner.  It came in the form of a little gem in Atwater Village on a quiet stretch of La Clede Avenue.  The listing agent boldly described it as “thoughtfully re-envisioned.”

What does that mean?

It’s code for “flipped,” a term which customarily means that the bounds of a once tired old house’s aesthetic appeal is going to be limited to what one might find in the aisles at their local Home Depot… because it’s cheap and easy.

And it is true. Most homes that undergo a quick rehab are not done so with much taste, quality, skill or even forethought.  “Flipped” homes usually look as though the contractor thought a bomb was going to go off and had to finish the job before detonation.  In most cases, I would say… let the thing blow!  But not today.

Occasionally a sad aging house, purchased by an investor to rehab and sell will break free from this convention of craftsmanshit (yes you read that correctly) and emerge from a well thought out project as simply, a great house.

It is truly refreshing to see that style and elegance can actually be merged with flipping as was deftly accomplished at 3308 La Clede. From its redesigned open floor plan to a décor in harmony with its 1923 roots this is a very cool pad.  The flow of the main living area makes the home feel more voluminous than its 1,134 SF would imply.  Function and form work synergistically through the stylish choice of fixtures, tile, color palate, flooring. It is comfortable, sexy, serene.

“Re-Envisioned” indeed!  A great deal at $599,000
